“Un-Block The Music” had a lot of fun speaking with Luba Mason as she gets ready to release her album tomorrow, October 23rd! Luba will be the subject of an upcoming “Women Wednesday”, but I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to tell you about Triangle.
Luba describes Triangle as “a blend of different musical currents”. The material is diverse: from pop classics by the Beatles and Paul Simon to a Monk standard, a Slovak folk song and a recent Broadway hit. Surely, she says, it is the first time that Brazilian legend Antonio Carlos Jobim and heavy metal band System of a Down have been represented in the same repertoire!
A quick background on Luba…She is a Broadway star having been in Chicago, How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and Jekyll & Hyde. Just as Broadway came to a halt she was getting great reviews in her latest role in Girl From the North Country for which she learned to play the drums! She’s also made the transition from stage to screen, guest starring in episodes of shows like Law & Order and Person of Interest and co-starring with her husband, the Panamanian musician, actor and activist Rubén Blades, in Tonya Pinkins’ upcoming political horror film Red Pill.
Triangle was recorded at the Power Station studio in N YC. Un-Block The Music visited them. Remember? (https://unblockthemusic.blog/2018/09/11/berkleenycs-redesign-of-famed-power-station-to-breathe-life-into-the-studio-business-education/). It features Joe Locke and James Genus and was produced by longtime Prince collaborator Renato Neto (who was Keyboardist in Prince’s New Power Generation band for a decade).
Triangle will be available on Amazon, iTunes, Apple Music and you can stream it on all platforms including Spotify. For more info people can also visit: www.bluecanoerecords.com/triangle
